I just got back from attending my first WordCamp event and really had a great time. Fortunately, I was able to get a ticket—they sold out in lightning fast speed! WordCamp is a weekend event organized by WordPress users or user groups that feature some very informative educational sessions as well as a great opportunity to network with other WordPress users and developers. The WordCamp I attended was held in Orange County, CA, at Vanguard University—right next to the Fairgrounds.
If you’ve never attended a WordCamp event, I highly encourage you to do so. There are many great session topics that all levels of WordPress users can benefit from. I picked up some great tips on how to speed up a WordPress site, how to better secure your site from hackers, and how to make sure your WP site is accessible on all types of mobile devices. Most pertinent to photographers or photo bloggers, there was even a session on how to protect your blog from getting sued. Whether you post your own photos or someone else’s on your photo blog, you definitely need to be careful.
I’ll be sharing some of the information I received at WordCamp in future posts. To learn more about WordCamp events, visit the WordCamp Central website at http://central.wordcamp.org/.
