It’s often said that your blog is the best form of social media available—and I would agree. You just have so much more freedom with your own blog to do things the way you want to and not be confined to what the social media sites say you can and can’t post.
That being said, there is no question that social media can play a huge role in developing a following and driving traffic to your website. In addition to the social photo sites like Instagram, Flickr, and Pinterest, you also have the bigger sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.
Developing a successful social media strategy includes determining which avenue or combination of social media sites works best for your niche. Promoting your photography business or photography products will probably require a different type of approach as opposed to selling clothing or cosmetics. Besides posting photos on photography social media sites, you’ll need to test out how well Facebook Pages, Tweets, and Google+ links work for your target market. While the goal may be to drive traffic to your blog where you can engage visitors with affiliate products or services, the correct road map for getting there may take some work to find.
The upcoming Affiliate Summit West conference in January will feature a number of informative sessions on social media strategies.
