I’ve never really been a huge fan of social media photography sites like Flickr and 500px. I’d much rather post my stuff on my own WordPress photo blog. However, I know that a lot of photographers do like Flickr and already have a lot of photos uploaded there. The good news is you can connect your WordPress photo blog to Flickr and have images that you’ve already uploaded on Flickr displayed on your blog. This saves you the time and hassle of having to upload your photos to multiple places.
There are a number of plugins available to connect your WP blog to Flickr. I recently tried out the Awesome Flickr Gallery plugin and I found it worked out quite well. It allows you to easily display galleries of your Flickr photostream on your WP posts or pages. And, it also gives you options to customize the look of your gallery. I found the plugin easy to use. The only possible tricky points are in setting up your Flickr connection. First, you need a Flickr API Key—which is kind of interesting since usually developers are the ones that need these API keys to hook into the software. Anyway, it’s very easy to get the Flickr API Key by clicking the link on the settings page.
The other point to remember is you need to supply your actual Flickr ID. So, even if you’re logging in with your Yahoo! ID or Facebook, etc., you don’t use that ID. Fortunately, if you don’t know what your actual Flickr ID is (I didn’t), there is also a link on the settings page that you can click to easily retrieve it.
If you’re a huge Flickr user, I would certainly recommend you take a look at the Awesome Flickr Gallery plugin for your WordPress Photo blog.
