In my continuing search to find a way to snap photos with my smartphone camera and have them appear on my photo blog without having to go in and manually post them, I finally found a good solution. Previously, I had written about combining WordPress plugins with Flickr. However, that really didn’t accomplish what I needed. But using the Instagrate plugin along with Instagram, you can have your photos appear as pages or posts within your WP photo blog very easily.
The only downside to this method is that you do have to use Instagram. I’ve had my own gripes about Instagram in the past. But given that this is the best way I’ve found to automatically add smartphone photos to WordPress, you may want to try it out even if you’re not the biggest Instagram fan.
Once you create your Instagram account (if you don’t already have one), it’s a very simple process to install, activate, and configure the Instagrate to WordPress plugin. When I tested it out, everything went smoothly. In fact, you can see a sample image I took that was automatically displayed in a post here.
There was about a two minute time frame from the point I actually took the photo in Instagram and when the newly created post appeared in WordPress—pretty cool stuff!
