If you have a WordPress photo blog, you’ve probably upgraded to the latest version 3.5. If not, I’d strongly encourage you to do so. In addition to keeping your software up to date for security purposes, WordPress 3.5 does contain a couple of very nice features for photographers.
First, the media editor has been revamped and improved. Now, adding images to your posts and pages is more convenient and user friendly. Second, the WP theme section now contains a bunch of great ready to use themes within the repository itself. In the past, if you wanted a spruced up theme, you had to search around or create one yourself. You can now just click on the Appearance/Themes menu and then go to the Install Themes tab. You specify some criteria and you are presented with a bunch of themes you can install right there.
I’ll be posting more information about the themes for photo bloggers soon. If you’re thinking about creating a WordPress photo blog, now is a great time to do so with these improvements. As I said previously, if you already have a site and have not updated yet, go for it! Just remember to back up your site first—just in case.
